In an incredible act of kindness and solidarity with a young member of their community, three officers stepped in when a twelve-year-old boys bike was stolen, and with their own funds purchased him a brand new bike of his own.
The twelve-year-old boy, Naz Harding, is a member of the police departments youth program, so the officers were not only familiar with the kid, but feel like he is one of their own. Three police officers, in particular, Tyrell Jenkins, Kevin Smalls, and Christopher White were so upset by the news that they decided to put their heads together and figure out a way to make it right.
At first, they looked at the other organizations in their town to see if there was somewhere they could turn for help with getting Naz a brand new set of wheels. However, after looking into their options, they decided just to use their own money to all three pitch in and make sure he could get the best new bike possible.
The story soon went Viral, and Naz and the police officers were interviewed on the national television program Inside Edition. Naz told the news program that he was surprised, and, “happy because I could ride my bike with my friends again!”
Naz’s mother, Cathy Harding, was also interviewed by Inside Edition, and said to them, “It was pretty cool of them to stop on their busy days fighting crime and doing what they’re doing just to give my son a bike … Just to give him back a bike, just as simple as riding with his friends means so much to these kids.”
One thing is for sure, this family will not soon forget the kindness of these three officers, and what it means for Naz to be able to play with his friends, and once again have the freedom of his own bicycle to ride around in his community.
