Mitchell Miner, 15, is a country boy, who has spent his life around animals. As a member of the 4H club, he loves animals of all shapes and sizes and has spent the last two months with a dairy cow named Audri, getting ready to show her at the Iowa State Fair. Spending so much time with the cow created a very special bond between the two. In fact, they are now so close that the pair enjoys napping together. According to Miner, Audri the cow seems to want to lay down a lot, and she also seems to really enjoy his company, so he decided to lay down with her and take a nap while getting ready at the fairgrounds.
On show day, Miner and Audri had to rise at 3 in the morning to start getting ready, and after a long day, Audri placed fifth out of seven dairy cows in the competition. After such a long day, and not placing as well as they had hoped, they were both understandably exhausted when they decided to catch a little shut eye. The sleeping pair caught the eye of others at the fair, and soon pictures of Miner and Audri cuddling during their nap went viral, with people all over the country touched by the sweet image of a boy and his cow.
Miner’s parents were both raised on farms, and his mother is quick to point out that when you spend so much time around these animals, they grow attached to you. She thinks it makes sense that so many thousands of people had loved the image of Miner and Audri and that most people can relate to having a special bond with an animal.
As for Miner and Audri, they will be together for about another month, as Audri is a dairy cow that the family is only taking care of for the summer, while Miner shows her at various fairs throughout their state. The fair season ends around the end of September, so Audri will be going home, where Miner is sure to visit her. Although the two didn’t get first place in the Iowa State Fair competition, they found first place in the hearts of people all over the country.
