When Chris Daugherty greeted his family after returning from being deployed, he didn’t think anything of the “Welcome Home, Baby Daddy!” sign his wife was holding over her belly. After all, their two kids were swarming all over him, jumping up and down, hugging him, and shouting their excitement at finally having their dad home after a long seven months away. When the kids finally let him go along enough for Chris to hug his wife though, there was no mistaking what she was hiding behind that sign. Natasha was 7 ½ months pregnant.
Chris and Natasha had been trying to conceive before the deployment, but by the time Chris had to leave they hadn’t had any luck, or so they thought. Only a few short weeks after he had left, Natasha realized that they had succeeded and that by the time Chris got home, he was going to only be about a month away from being a third-time dad. That is when Natasha realized she had a unique opportunity to give Chris the surprise of his life.
At first, she thought of calling him and telling him the news over the phone, but then when she pictured his face if he came home to find her about to have a baby, she couldn’t resist the challenge of trying to keep it a secret until he got home. She took some extreme measures to do this.
Every picture she posted for the next seven months involved strategically hiding her growing belly and reminding family and friends not to spill the beans or post any pictures where her belly is visible. At one point she even posed with a beer just to throw off Chris, in case he was getting suspicious. All her efforts paid off though when he got home and was absolutely floored by the surprise waiting for him.
At first, he didn’t even think she was serious. He thought it was some kind of practical joke. It was almost too good to be true. Once he realized it wasn’t a joke, the family embraced and celebrated, and Chris noticed that he was being filmed. That video now has almost 200,000 views, and people all over the world are sharing in the joy of the surprise Natasha gave to Chris.
