For many, winning the lottery is a dream, something almost everyone fantasizes about, but very few people will ever get to experience. Thinking of ways to spend lottery money has been a past time for people ever since the drawings were created and people first started buying lottery tickets. Most of us, however, do not ever think about the places where the tickets are sold, and many people don’t know that when a winning ticket is sold that the venue which sold it gets a commission. So for them, when you win the lottery, if you bought a ticket from their store, in a way it’s like them winning the lottery too.
Bob Bolduc owns the store Pride Market which had the honor of recently selling a Powerball ticket worth millions of dollars, and that means Pride Market itself got a windfall of fifty thousand dollars in commission. For all intents and purposes, Bob Bolduc and Pride Market had won the lottery. Bob didn’t want to spend the money on anything extravagant though, no boats, or jewelry, or expensive trips to far off places. Bob’s dream is simpler – use this unexpected money to help make the world a better place.
So it is that Bob recently held a press conference inviting any non-profit that is focused on helping children, and is located in the same vicinity as Pride Market, to apply for some of the lottery winnings. Bob wants to give the entire fifty thousand dollars in prize money to local charities, saying, “We were as surprised as everybody else. We’re happy for our customer, and we’re happy for the charities.”
Bob has set up a page on the website pridestores.com/charity for any agency that thinks they might qualify to receive a portion of the prize money to fill out a form and state their case. Until September 11th he, and the Pride Market team will be accepting applications and have made it so easy for people to apply that instead of a long form or several questions, it is just an open paragraph format where places can say whatever they want. However, they want, to explain why they think their charity, in particular, will be where the lottery money will be of the most help.
Bob has shown with this act of selfless generosity that Pride Market indeed takes pride in its community, and that there are businesses out there that put people above profit, to the point that they would give away thousands and thousands of dollars in unexpected funds just to help their fellow man. Bob truly is a hero.
