Something everyone usually dreads about travel is the airport. Between the long lines in the check-in, having to take your shoes off and your laptop out at security, and the seemingly endless delays once you even get back to your gate, the airport for most people means one big annoyance. A woman named Mahshid Mazooji though decided to prove to the world that life is what you make of it when she spent the night stuck in the airport and instead of complaining and feeling frustrated, she spent the night having a great time and dancing with strangers.
Mashid originally was only going to have a layover in North Carolina’s Charlotte Douglas International Airport, but instead, she made the airport her own personal dance party. When the flight bringing Mashid to her connection arrived late, she, through no fault of her own, missed her connecting flight, and suddenly found herself stuck in the airport for the night.
Mashid truly took to heart the advice to make lemonade when life gives you lemons, and she decided to turn the Charlotte airport into her own personal dance party. She used her mobile device to shoot footage of herself dancing with both passengers and airport staff, and used her extra time to make a music video of the dancing accompanied by Lionel Richie’s song “All Night Long (All Night.).” The video struck a chord with people across the world, quickly garnering over 2 million views.
In the description of the video Mashid explained herself to the world by saying, “I didn’t want to sit in anger all night long, so instead, I did what makes me happiest … Dance!!!”
Not only did she get to enjoy one of her favorite activities though, she made a different kind of connection than the one between flights, adding, “Oh, and I made some pretty great friends along the way!”
Thanks to the success of her viral video, Mashid is still making friends and impressing people all over the world, including the man who provided the vocals to her dancing, none other than Lionel Richie himself. Mr. Richie took to his official Facebook page to not only share the video but send a personal note complimenting Mashid on her impressive dance skills, saying, “HAHA! Seems like a really fun use of downtime at the airport … That moonwalk though, wow!
After this experience, Mashid has shown millions of people that just because you’re stuck somewhere, you didn’t expect, doesn’t mean you can’t still have a great time!
