An abandoned puppy became internet famous and now has tons of applicants wanting to take him home. The fuzzy fella was found by a traveler in the Las Vegas airport restroom. Sitting next to him was a note explaining the depressing reason behind his abandonment. Chewy’s story shows how domestic violence doesn’t only affect people but pets too.
The note said: “Hi! I’m Chewy! Mу owner wаѕ іn аn abusive relationship аnd couldn’t afford mе tо gеt оn thе flight. She didn’t wаnt tо leave mе wіth аll hеr heart, but ѕhе hаѕ nо оthеr option. Mу ex-boyfriend kicked mу dog whеn wе wеrе fighting аnd hе hаѕ а big knot оn hіѕ head. Hе рrоbаblу nееdѕ а vet. I love Chewy so muсh – рlеаѕе love аnd tаkе care оf him.”
Luckily, Chewy was found shortly after his abandonment. Next, the tiny 3-month-old pup was taken to a local rescue center called Connor & Millie Dog rescue. The shelter posted Chewy’s story on Facebook, and it went viral. Chewy’s cute looks and unique story brought him tons of attention.
Loads of interest forms were submitted from people wanting to adopt Chewy and give him a forever home. The shelter has continued to respond to the offers and comments on Facebook. It has recognized the fantastic support and outreach from the community.
However, there is only one Chewy to go around. The shelter has used this as an opportunity to stress the importance of adopting in general. Obviously, only one lucky individual will get to take Chewy home. The shelter hopes interested individuals will consider adopting some of the other amazing dogs at the shelter that desperately needs homes. With such a high interest in taking Chewy, the shelter has had put a hold on applications.
In a recent post, Connor & Millie Dog Rescue said, “Please consider the hundreds if not thousands of ‘Chewys’ loaded with love that is desperately seeking homes in shelters which are at max capacity, rescues are full!”
Many shelter animals have similar stories to Chewy – they could not longer be kept due to domestic violence situations. The shelter said many pet owners in abusive relationships are forced to give up their furry friends. A primary reason is due to abuse victim shelters not allowing animals.
Connor & Millie Dog Rescue hopes Chewy’s story will inspire people to adopt from shelters. Although only one person will get the famous Chewy, there are still tons of amazing and loveable dogs seeking adoption.
