A gift is something many people cherish, whether it’s simply a cup of coffee from a coworker or the diamond engagement ring your fiancé surprised you with on Christmas. No matter how simple, it’s something the receiver will cherish. Three years ago, a little boy named Daniel received a special gift from the sanitation truck driver in his neighborhood. You may be wondering why this interaction took place or why it’s even significant enough to talk about. You see, Daniel has Autism and LOVES sanitation trucks. Each morning he stands outside his home and waves as the sanitation truck as it drives by. Little did Daniel realize, he was making Manuel the truck drivers day just by waving every time he went past.
As you can see in the video, one-day Manuel decides to treat his biggest fan to a small gift. Little did he know how much that gift would actually mean to Daniel and his parents. Manuel had no idea that Daniel had Autism. All he saw was a sweet kid who loved to wave at the truck as he passed. Manuel went out and purchased a small garbage truck toy with his own money to present to Daniel.
In the video, you see Manuel getting out of the truck and asking Daniel’s mom Robin if he can give something to Daniel. She agrees, so he gets out of the truck and gives the gift to Daniel. Daniel excitedly looks in the bag, then steps away. His mom encourages him to open it, and she eventually pulls out the garbage truck toy. She excitedly exclaims to Manuel that “You won’t believe this but, he used to have one just like it and we lost it!” They thank Manuel profusely, and he is on his way.
Eventually, Manuel’s company heard about the story and recognized him for going above and beyond. According to the Autism Speaks website, Manuel said that the little boy is so special and will steal anybody’s heart. Daniel made Manuel’s day each Monday by eagerly awaiting his arrival and greeting him and the truck excitedly. Manuel made Daniel and Daniel’s mom’s day by presenting him with a special gift.
Daniel’s mom Robin has since created a Facebook page that has a little over 3,000 followers where she posts things about Daniel and encouraging words for other parents that have kids with autism. She also has a blog you can follow.
The video alone will make your heart melt along with the sweet story behind it. Even though the video was released and went viral three years ago, it has resurfaced recently and gone viral again.
A simple gift turned into a sensation on the internet that has left us all smiling and feeling better about what’s happening in the world. Maybe this video inspired you to do something nice for someone else or in the least bit, put a smile on your face!
