An incredible seven-year-old girl named Jordan West recently created some Disney magic for herself and 14 other girls. Jordan took it upon herself to raise money (with her mom’s help with logistics) for a princess party at Disney World. Instead of inviting friends and family, Jordan wanted to throw a princess party for the less fortunate and foster children, the ones who wouldn’t otherwise get to go to Disney World.
Jordan by this point is quite an experienced party planner. She first threw a “Princess for a Day” party at a spa in New York, where she lives. She was able to invite 24 girls who were either from families with very limited means or foster care. The girls were transported in a limo and got the full spa and princess treatment throughout the day. Word happened to get back to Michelle and Barack Obama about this amazing little girl, and they decided to let her throw another party at their house, with 115 other girls in attendance.
Not one to stop there, Jordan didn’t wonder for long where she could go to top the White House. For a seven-year-old, there is only one answer – Disney World. Jordan decided to fund-raise in every way she could think, including writing her own book which is sold on Amazon, among other more traditional means. Finally, on August 4, the day arrived, and Jordan along with 14 other girls arrived at the gates of Disney World, ready to be treated like princesses.
Disney was prepared to meet the challenge. The girls were all given their own swag bags and ushered to Cinderella’s Castle, where they got the full spa treatment at Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique. They had a full day of activities and met some real Disney Princesses, along with swarming Snow White for a photo. Jordan’s mother, Olivia West, could not be more proud, saying, “We wanted it to be the best day ever. Learning about foster care and [how] some of these kids have traumatic experiences and unpleasant memories, it’s nice to be able to place some great memories in their memory box.”
One of the chaperones of the visit, Tan Mitchell, is also a foster mother of one of the lucky girls who got to attend and was blown away at the festivities, and the experience being provided for these girls, who so need experiences such as this one. “They had a lot of activities for them, a lot of surprises for them along the way, so I think it went very well,.. It really did a lot to make these girls smile and make them feel like princesses for a day.”
