Ten-year-old Jayden Fontenot is in the running for the best big brother of the year, after he helped deliver his baby brother and saved his mother’s life when she unexpectedly went into labor. His mother, Ashly Moreau was only 34 weeks pregnant, and home alone with Jayden, when she suddenly went into labor. She was not prepared and made it to her bathroom floor, but due to the sudden nature of labor, and how badly she was bleeding, she could not move from the ground. That is when Jayden went into action.
He first ran next door to his grandmother’s house and told her what was happening. He was able to tell his grandmother that his mother needed help right away and to call 911 so an ambulance would be on the way as soon as possible, but his grandmother is home bound, and as much as she wanted to, she could not be the one to go and help her daughter. Knowing it was up to him to help until the professionals got there, Jayden ran back home as quickly as possible to check on his mother.
When he found his mother on the bathroom floor, things were not looking good. Not only was she bleeding out, putting her life in danger, his mother realized that his little brother was breached, and it didn’t seem as if he was breathing. Ashly says, “When he got to the bathroom, he just took a deep breath and said, ‘ok, Mom, just tell me what I need to do’, he didn’t look scared, he looked calm and brave and I said ‘ok, I’m going to tell you what to do and we need to get your brother out as fast as possible because he’s breached and he can’t breathe.’ “
Amazingly, Jayden was able to grab his little brother’s feet and gently pull him out to safety, however even once he was delivered, the baby was still not breathing. Thinking quickly, Jayden ran to get a nasal aspirator and cleared his brother’s breathing passages, and miraculously the baby was then able to breathe. Right at that time the ambulance showed up and was able to stop his mother’s bleeding and take them both to the hospital, where both mother and baby made a full recovery.
Jayden is truly the big brother of the century.
