Going off to college is a scary thing for parents and their kids. Children may be excited about the prospect of more freedom but also nervous about leaving home for the first time and parents are probably nervous about the independence their kids are going to experience. What eases many of these feelings is the fact that you can always go home for a weekend visit and also get care packages that remind you of home. A California girl received just that from her dad recently, and the fact that he has to work most of the weekends she’s home to visit makes the package all the sweeter.
Cecilia Li was driving back to school with her mom after a weekend at home when she realized that she had forgotten the mango her dad had especially sliced and packaged for her, knowing it was her favorite fruit. He realized it too and texted her about it. After realizing she was too far away to turn around, he asked for her mailing address. When she asked why he said he would overnight her forgotten package. He followed through on that promise, and the mangoes arrived at her apartment in an ice box.
She shared the image on Twitter and Buzzfeed got a hold of it. She told them she was thrilled to receive the gift because she often works over the weekend and that she had “never been happier nor more amused that I had mangoes, cut, packaged, and shipped with love.” Her tweet received a great response from other social media users with things like Pokemon and Will Ferrell memes.

According to Li, her family is a huge fan of fruit, and they always purchase a box of mangoes to share. Li had gone home to visit her family on Saturday even though she had class on Sunday. In her hurry to get back on the road, she left the mango on the counter. According to BuzzFeed Li says that her dad does this kind of thing often. One time he sent her sister her contacts while on vacation and included a packet of M&M’s as well.
Li’s father is clearly a man who likes to show his family how much he cares with surprises and gifts. Just the simple gesture of sending them the things they need with a little twist is enough for them to feel cared for and loved. Li and her Dad are getting their 15 minutes of fame, but I’m sure the gifts and acts of kindness will continue beyond the 15 minutes!
